WASHINGTON, D.C. – This Saturday, Obama Administration cabinet secretaries and officials will join more than 150,000 volunteers all across the country as they work to improve our nation’s public lands.

EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson and White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley will be planting trees at Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in NE Washington, D.C.

Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will be taking an airboat ride and helping restore marshes on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. (40 miles north of New Orleans)

U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell will roll up his sleeves and help remove invasive species and maintain hiking trails on the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. (40 miles west of Chicago)

A project of the National Environmental Education Foundation, National Public Lands Day (NPLD) features volunteer events in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. It supports the goals of the America’s Great Outdoors and Let’s Move Outside initiatives, both of which aim to reconnect Americans with the outdoors and encourage physical activity to improve health.

The event annually draws tens of thousands of volunteers whose one-day efforts will equate more than $15 million in improvements to America’s public lands. It is sponsored nationally by Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. and is held in partnership with eight federal agencies, state and local park offices and hundreds of local volunteer organizations.
