National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling

The Advisory Council for the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NISHEC) developed homeownership industry standards through a collaborative effort with the goal of informing consumers so they will be better equipped to sustain healthy homeownership.

The standards help practitioners and organizations provide families and communities with the highest level of service in the industry. With the standards in place and counseling organizations eager to adopt them, the Advisory Council understood the need to communicate to consumers that adopters of the standards are best suited to help them navigate the home-buying process.  


The council turned to Tricom Associates to create a branding campaign. The challenge was to create a logo and tagline that would resonate with all of their various audiences, including the most educated industry stakeholders and typically undereducated low-income homeowners. Tricom created and presented branding concepts that best speak to NISHEC’s diverse audiences, including counseling agencies encouraged to adopt the standards, consumers encouraged to look for the “trusted source” standards seal and stakeholder organizations that know the importance of education to create sustainable homeownership.

Tricom worked with the Advisory Council to implement consumer testing of the taglines and logo and successfully launched the new brand for the NISHEC in December 2009.
