In prehistoric times, cavemen would hunt and fish out of need. Now, professional sport fishermen can easily earn over $130,000 annually. Today, hunters will hunt just to hunt. They will not save or eat the meat. They strictly enjoy the thrill of the chase. Similar to recreational fishing, fisherman will sometimes catch and immediately release their fish,a thought that would have horrified cavemen. Everything they did was to secure dinner. They would never imagine letting go of their catch.

Food can even lead to a profession. Some Asian cultures have occupations called Muk Bongs. These are people who sit in front of webcams and eat large portions of food. Hundreds of people from around the world will tune in to watch. Muk Bongs on average make $3,000 a month.

Other online food jobs include food or exercise blogs. Food blogs tend to be dedicated to admiring and crafting food. Fitness blogs typically discuss how to optimize nutrients and benefits of food, demonstrating how to create the healthiest meals. Amateur bloggers can easily make $100,000 a year.

Men have gathered around food since the beginning of time. In recorded history, the first social gatherings around food occurred in ancient Greece. It was very common for leaders to throw lavish dinner parties, inviting their most trusted friends and soldiers. These meals were opportunities to bond, enjoy, and even deliberate. Not much has changed over time.

Sadly, in today’s busy times it has become less common for families to sit down and eat together. Someone is always going somewhere, while another in the family or group is preparing to go somewhere.

We may not realize it, but we are highly influenced by how much and what the others we dine with are eating. If you find yourself gaining weight from eating often in large groups, there are simple solutions. Instead of offering meals when coordinating plans, try suggesting going bowling, seeing a movie, or going for a scenic walk.

The diet of a poor person is drastically different compared to the eating habits of someone in a middle or higher class. Lower income houses often have unbalanced diets. They do not eat many fruits or vegetables. The foods they consume are often low in nutrients and high in energy. The reasons for picking unhealthy foods are cost, accessibility, lack of knowledge, and lack of proper cooking equipment. Underprivileged people are more likely to eat fast food or purchase pre packaged items.

However, all three of these foods totally confuse foreigners. As an example, Indians believe that corn on the cob is strictly for animals, not for human consumption.

English people prefer salads to be served after the main course. Muslims do not eat any food derived from pigs, goats, and sea scavengers. This is important to remember as Muslims view some animals as sacred.

Food can have a strong correlation to religious ceremonies. For Catholics, wine and bread symbolize the body and blood of Jesus Christ. In America, dinner is typically served around six o’clock. When in Spain, you should expect dinner around nine. These are only a couple examples of etiquette that you should take into consideration before hosting a multicultural dinner event.
