Being Thankful

“What are you thankful for this year?”

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite reason to go home. It is time to reflect on the past year and remember what I am thankful for.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a time in which Americans show their appreciation for everything that they have, and reflect on the Pilgrims’ arrival from England in 1621.

The first Thanksgiving feast consisted of sharing food with the Native Americans. There is no doubt that the federal holiday revolves around food. The turkey is the symbol of Thanksgiving.

The busiest travel day in the United States will always be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. People make the effort to go home and see loved ones for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving consists of food, football and family. We enjoy the seasonal flavors of the fall season with apple and pumpkin pies for desserts. Food always brings family and friends to spend quality time together.

Thanksgiving offers the opportunity to take time and remember what I am thankful for. I enjoy all the food and the opportunity to come home and reconnect with my sisters. We all live in different places, but Thanksgiving always allows us to come back home and eat too much turkey together. I am thankful for their overwhelming support and love.

As we struggle through the holiday traffic, Thanksgiving is the one day that we take the time to remember and reflect what we are thankful for.

Be sure to travel safely and eat too much turkey!
